Diatonic and chromatic harps can play the entire chromatic scale. On the chromatic its easier but it's still a pretty complicated instrument. On the Diatonic you need to make blow bends, draw bends, overblows and overdraws.

just got my harmonica today, i love jamming, :P im trying to learn a few songs i can play but im not sure how to read the tabs, does -6 mean you breathe in on 6 or blow out? btw toots the man, if you notice while hes playing hes moving his pointer finger to bend a note it seems, what is he doing?

I will probably never get to see this legend play live. But if i did, i would think it would be really cool if he performed his famous closing theme to sesame street as his encore.

Okay, here's the problem I have the harmonica. While the idea of the instrument is very appealing, it's tone is not. They need to figure out a way to not make it not so harsh sounding. I mean it has a very piercing sound that is not very pleasing to the ear.
Jazz is played best by the following instruments: trumpet, saxophone, trombone, guitar, clarinet, and piano. The reason these instruments sound so wonderful is because they're capable of a very mellow tone.

I would say that the harmonica is capable of being very mellow. Something about that sound sets my teeth on edge, I suspect its a digital thing, nothing wrong with the instrument or Toots.

-6 means to draw on that hole. Toots is playing a chromatic harp. It has a button the side that is pushed in to play sharps and flats. That is what he is doing with his finger.
