The backstory on Slusho was that a little girl swam down into the ocean and ate "Sea Nectar" which made her grow as big as a whale. I've always believed Cloverfield to be either a really young (unformed) Cthulhu spawn or a Deep One that has grown hundreds of times larger. If that was it that fell from the sky then it has to be Cthulhu spawn. Tagurato website said a satellite fell to earth and woke something up on the bottom of the ocean, which means it could be a Deep One. What do you think?

Yeah, satellite is both confirmed on the Tagurato website and senn in the movie, falling to the sea. But what secret hides behind the monster? Who knows? Expecting Cloverfield 2 - people who made Lost have a great head for inventing mysteries, but knowing their style, the monster would be rather an ancient creature than something connected to paranormal (Cthulu? Bhueheuehe!!!.)

The first reason it was called Cloverfield was because one of the production crew, whilst discussing the making of the film. Remembering that JJ's old offices were next to Cloverfield St, thought that what was said. In fact what was originally said was something about Cloverdale. A simple misunderstanding by the production, but was kept all the same.
And then once decided on, the story had it incorporated as the designated military event codename.
