You collosal idiots who believe that the US is somehow immune to disasters like this simply need to research the early history of US submarine activity. Accidents are prone to happen because submarine operation is a very dangerous and unpredictable activity. The only reason the US has not seen a recent accident is because of vigorous safety standards not superior equipment.

presar: The US is not immune from anything. Accidents can happen anywhere. But...when you look at the history of US nuclear submarine operations, it's been remarkably safe. We lost one sub (THRESHER) and have had zero incidents with nuclear reactors.
The Russians on the other hand have had a constant stream of accidents. And those are only the ones that the Western MSM got hold of...god knows how many accidents have happened that the media never knew about. The Russians are unsafe. Period.

I see your point JohnR but this is hardly the place to make mockery of Russian sub technology in light of the deaths of more than 20 people! After all, this was an unfortunate accident, and they do have 11 other Acula II class subs operating without any problems, so something must be up! I won't comment on the second part of your post. I've watched literally hundreds of military equipment videos on YouTube, and the comments demonstrate an opposite view to yours.

Exactly my point JohnR, i agreed in my comment that US submarine operations have been remarkably safe because of one reason the rigorous training and safety standards that are adhered to, not the superiority of equipment. The Akula class sumarine is one of the quietest submarines in operation that wouldn't be the case if the Russians were using inferior technology. The problem with the Russians is a lack of training and low safety standards.

edwong: Yeah, I'm Ok with that. I spent 24 yrs in the Navy and my heart goes out to those guys. Same as when the KURSK sank. We trained to fight against them, and I've always hated communism, but I never had any hard feelings against the Russians as a people/culture. Sad to see them slipping back into authoritarianism though.
Re Russian behavior on Youtube, I guess we're looking at different vids. I've found the Russians to be the rudest; Canadians are second oddly enough.

Yeh your right, but i must say British and American training is to a good standard. Many of soldiers die only during training. That should not be happening in any kind of Training
